For more than 100 years Floragard successfully has been working on development, production and marketing of premium potting soil and substrates, which stand for the highest degree of crop safety and excellent performance. Confidence, experience and reliability are the basis Floragard and the associated production plants build their business on. Our customers all over the world benefit from these principles and our know-how in the production of potting soil and substrates.

Milestones


1919

Foundation of the company Torfstreuverband GmbH

The shareholders of Torfstreuverband GmbH aim to maintain harvesting and sales areas for their products Torfstreu (litter) and Torfmull (peat for soil conditioning), which were already established products at that time, and to access new areas. On 21st May 1919 they met in Berlin and signed the company agreement. The start of a success story.


1929

Development of the brand „Floratorf“

In order to underline the improved quality of the product Torfmull a new brand has been designed: Floratorf. The triangular grafic symbol of this brand, which can still be found in Floragard`s logo today, has been a powerful visual support in defining the company`s identity.


1934

Establishment of subsidiary Torfhumusdienst

Subsidiary Torfhumusdienst is established (which today is our technical department of horticulture). With its know-how this new company gives important technical advice on our Floratorf-products.


1946

The company`s head office moves to Oldenburg

In 1946, after the end of the Second World War, the company moves to Lower Saxony, where the raw material originates from. The company is still headquartered in Oldenburg today.


1950

Marketing in other European countries begins

Floratorf-products are marketed successfully in Switzerland, Austria, and Italy.


1959

Launch of TKS (Torfkultursubstrat – growing medium on peat basis)

Torfstreuverband launches the first industrially produced substrate on peat basis adding well combined nutrients. This product is the result of the company`s close 4-year-cooperation with scientists and experts from professional horticulture and is addressed to hobby gardeners as well.


1967

Florahum has its premiere

Special mixture Florahum has its premiere. This mixture of different types of peat, added nutrients and micro-nutrients guarantees improved growth.


1970

Ericaceous plants find their way into private gardens

Torfstreuverband`s experts notice the trends in professional horticulture and in the hobby market. Rhododendrons enter private gardens – Rhodohum has been designed especially for this type of plants. With this new mixture there is a unique product to improve the soil for rhododendrons, azaleas, erica and camellia. This is still a trend today.


1978

TKS Instant is introduced to the market

Torfstreuverband introduces another absolutely new product: TKS Instant. The advantage : A unique wetting agent provides for a much better water absorption after dehydration.


1979

Palletised goods enter the market

Torfstreuverband offers palletised goods, which immensely increases the logistic performance.


1981

Export across the world

Torfstreuverband exports to countries all over the world, even to the Asian market. Further markets will be entered in the following years.


1982

Floradur: A new product for hobby gardeners

Floradur Potting Soil is introduced, a high-quality product for hobby gardeners


1987

Floragard-brand

Since 1987 potting soils for hobby applications have been marketed under Floragard-brand. Floragard – a name made-up of the word „flora“ and „gard“ (old German word for „protection“).


1991

Change of the company`s name: Floragard Vertriebs-GmbH

The company Torfstreuverband GmbH is renamed Floragard Vertriebs GmbH. This alignment of brand and company name further boosts international sales activities.


1992

Nature protection in the boglands of Goldenstedt

Floragard puts emphasis on its responsible attitude towards the environment and is one of the founders of the Naturschutz- und Informationszentrum (NIZ) Goldenstedt (Centre for Information and Nature Conservation in Goldenstedt).


1996

Move to the new building in Gerhard-Stalling-Straße in Oldenburg

Floragard moves to its new head office in Gerhard-Stalling-Straße in Oldenburg. At this new address a state-of-the-art green house and a laboratory are the basis for reliable research and development activities.


2000

Bio-Topp for ecological gardening

Bio-Topp Potting Soil is Floragard`s first hobby product for ecological gardening.


2004

This year`s innovation: Floragard Active Potting Soil

Floragard Active Potting Soil is an absolutely new product with a special 6-months-slow-release-fertilizer – unrivalled to this day.


2012

Compact bales

New soil mixtures in a 20-litres-compact bale are introduced to the market.


2013

Peat-free bio potting soils capture the market

Floragard combines both features, „bio“ and „peat-free“, and offers peat-free bio soils. Floragard all-round peat-free Bio Potting Soil and peat-free Bio Potting Soil for Tomatoes and Vegetables are a great success.


2016

Expanded range of peat-free bio potting soil

Some new products are added to our product line of peat-free bio potting soil, such as peat-free Bio Rhodohum Ericaceous Soil.


2017

Start of online business activities

Now you can order Floragard soils at the well-known internet-shops.


2019

100th anniversary

Floragard redesigns its Floragard hobby product line and celebrates its 100th anniversary. The products of the Oldenburg-based expert for substrates and potting soils are distributed in more than 85 countries.


2020

Floragard Professional Growmix

With Floragard Professional Growmix, Floragard Vertriebs-GmbH is launching a consumer soil with Trichoderma for the first time.

With the different potting soils in the box, Floragard revolutionises the online trade of soils
